Assistant TeacherAt — Let Them Lead Education

Assistant teachers will lead small groups in CA standards-aligned lessons in TK through 6th grade. Lessons in ELA, math, science and social studies will be provided at the beginning and more responsibility progressively be given to the assistant teacher. Basic setup and tear down tasks like sweeping and taking out trash are also required. The position requires the use of the SeeSaw app to post student work and communicate with parents. 

Task:

The student will be able to observe and analyze classroom instruction to identify effective teaching strategies and classroom management techniques, implement teacher-created lesson plans and reflect on instructional effectiveness, collaborate with a supervising teacher to design and develop lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, deliver whole-class and small-group instruction, adjusting pacing and approach based on student needs, apply differentiation strategies to support diverse learners, including modifying assignments and providing targeted interventions, assess student understanding through informal and formal methods (e.g., observation, quizzes, and student work samples), provide academic support through one-on-one and small group instruction, communicate professionally with families through written updates, progress notes, or supervised conferences, participate in planning meetings and receive feedback to improve instructional practices and maintain organized records of lesson plans, student progress, and reflections on teaching practices.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, at a minimum, the student will be able to effectively follow and implement a structured lesson plan, design and develop lesson plans with guidance, aligning instruction to student needs, apply differentiation strategies to support diverse learners, lead and facilitate small group instruction and communicate clearly and professionally with families regarding student progress and needs.
