Student internAt — All Star Physical Therapy
Observation and shadowing of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and physical therapy technicians. Helping with laundry, restocking supplies, cleaning stations and general tidiness. Unlicensed or non-employeed personel are able to provide patient care.
Tasks:
Set up and clean up of stations; Shadowing the therapists. An overview of exercises as related to specific injuries or body parts and musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Patient communication.
Training:
Shadowing/Observation of PT team, review of clinical reasoning, highlights of importance of core abdominal activation and how it influences all exercises. Exercise program with regressions and progressions. Patient communication skills. Initial orientation includes general workflow of the clinic and employees duties within the clinic. Time at end of the day to review and questions or concerns.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship the student will be able to have a general idea of how a physical therapy clinic operates. The student will have a general idea of exercise programs for specific injuries, ie shoulder exercises versus knee exercises and knowledge of progression of treatment programs ie when it is appropriate to progress a program versus continuing with current program.
