Opportunity Summary 

The intern will monitor and supervise visits between biological families and their children currently placed in foster care.  In addition to ensuring a safe and productive visit, our interns will assist the families to work towards their goals which may include reunification.  

Tasks:

1. Supervise children at all times. This includes ensuring appropriate discussions and activities during the visit with their family member(s).
2. Coach parents who may have difficulty during the visit with their child(ren).
3. Observe difficult conversations with parents. (often when we need to cancel or end a visit)
4. Document activity and interactions during the visits. These reports will be submitted to social workers and judges as parents are being considered for reunification.

Training:

Interns will received initial orientation and will have a weekly meeting with their supervisor. Interns will be always be paired with another employee who can help answer any questions they may have. They will observe difficult conversations and be trained in de-escalation and communication with parents. They will learn how to supervise the children and learn how to document the visits. Their notes will be submitted to social workers and judges for upcoming court visits.

Learning Outcome:

1. Interns will learn how to coach parents during a visit with their child.
2. Interns will learn how to support children and families during visits.
3. Interns will learn how to \\case plan\\ with families.
4. Interns will learn how to navigate social workers.
