Opportunity Summary 

Mission Statement Since opening in 2011, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House has provided comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. The House raises funds to provide a home away from home for families with critically ill children. Everything is provided from housing to hot meals in order to direct these families’ focus to their child’s care. Our hope is to create a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage and joy by keeping families close to each other and the care they need. Position Summary The Long Beach Ronald McDonald House Special Events Intern works under the supervision of the Development Department. Interns will assist with logistical planning and execution of special events, and gain experience in fundraising, event planning, and community outreach. Part-time internships are available during Spring and Fall semesters. Internships are unpaid.

Desired Skills

• High attention to detail.

• Experience with event planning is helpful.

• Outgoing personality and a willingness to learn.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Etc.) is required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in Canva is preferred.

Opportunity Training 

Key Responsibilities Special Events Assistance

• Assist with implementing logistics for special events including Walk for Kids, A Few Good Men & Women Gala, 3rd Party Fundraisers, and pop-up booth events.

• Assist with compiling event materials and needs such as silent auction items, signage, and other collateral.

• Outreach to various companies for donations to our silent auction.

• Communicate with event participants via phone and email.

• Provide support after event with logistic organization, thank you letters, revenue reconciliation, committee gifts, and wrap up party.

• Provide day-of event support to House staff.

• Assist with general office tasks (filing, copying, organizing, answering phones etc.).
