The Asian, Pacific Islander, & Desi (APID) Resource Center at California State University, Long Beach is seeking a Service Learning Intern to support programs that foster belonging, leadership development, cultural affirmation, and student success for APID students. The intern will gain hands-on experience in higher education, student affairs, and community engagement by assisting with educational programs, cultural events, outreach initiatives, and resource center operations. Responsibilities may include event planning and implementation, marketing and social media support, student engagement, data collection, program assessment, and collaboration with campus partners and student organizations. Interns will strengthen their communication, teamwork, project management, and intercultural competency while learning about identity-based student support services and inclusive programming. This placement is ideal for students interested in education, counseling, social work, public administration, nonprofit leadership, or community engagement who are passionate about creating welcoming and inclusive campus environments for diverse student communities.
Analyze the diverse histories, identities, and lived experiences of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi (APID) communities and recognize the importance of culturally responsive student support.
Demonstrate intercultural communication and relationship-building skills by engaging respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.
Apply principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging to the planning, implementation, and assessment of educational programs and campus events.
Reflect on their own social identities, values, and leadership practices to better understand their role in fostering inclusive and welcoming campus communities.
Develop professional competencies in event planning, outreach, collaboration, and program evaluation while contributing to initiatives that enhance student engagement and success.
Recognize how identity-based resource centers support student retention, persistence, leadership development, and holistic well-being within higher education.
Service Learning Interns will participate in approximately 8–10 hours of onboarding and ongoing professional development designed to prepare them for success in the role.
APID Resource Center Orientation (1 hours): Mission, services, programs, campus resources, and expectations for working in an identity-based student resource center.
Student Development, Equity, and Belonging (1 hours): Foundations of culturally responsive programming, inclusive practices, and supporting diverse APID student communities.
Event Planning and Program Operations (1 hours): Event logistics, outreach, marketing, tabling, customer service, risk management, and campus procedures.
Professional Skills and Communication (1 hours): Effective communication, teamwork, professionalism, time management, and collaboration with campus partners and student organizations.
Assessment and Reflection (1 hours): Program evaluation, data collection, reflective practice, and connecting service-learning experiences to academic and career goals.
