Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary (TK–6) is seeking CSUMB service learners to support Community Schools initiatives. Students will work alongside the Community School Coordinator and school staff on projects aligned with their interests, skills, and areas of study.
Opportunities may include:
- supporting elementary learning
- enrichment activities
- assisting with classroom immersion experiences
- developing family resource materials
- supporting parent resource navigation
- creating bilingual newsletters
- school communications
- supporting youth voice and leadership initiatives
- assisting with community garden and campus learning space projects
- contributing to youth arts and creative projects
- supporting wellness and recreation activities
- assisting with surveys and data collection
- creating marketing and social media content
- documenting student projects through storytelling and digital media
- helping strengthen partnerships with local organizations
This opportunity provides hands on experience in education, community engagement, project development, and collaborative leadership while allowing students to contribute to initiatives that support students, families, and community.

Requirements:
- Health Check/Screening (e.g. temperature screening, COVID-19 test)
- Pre-Placement Training
- TB Test
- Bilingual Desired
Students will participate in an orientation covering Community Schools principles, school expectations, confidentiality, professionalism, student engagement strategies, and project-specific responsibilities. Additional guidance and training will be provided throughout the semester based on assigned projects.
