Opportunity Summary 

Create original content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other digital platforms, including graphics, videos, stories, and written posts.
Design marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, newsletters, presentations, and event promotions using Canva or similar design software.
Research current marketing trends and recommend strategies to increase community awareness, donor engagement, and volunteer recruitment.
Assist in developing and maintaining the organization's brand identity across digital and print communications.
Write success stories, blog posts, website content, and impact stories while maintaining client confidentiality and following nonprofit communication best practices.
Photograph and document agency events, community outreach activities, and special programs for marketing and promotional use.
Develop and maintain a monthly marketing and social media content calendar.
Analyze social media and marketing performance using engagement metrics and provide recommendations for improvement.
Collaborate with program staff to identify stories, accomplishments, and program updates that can be shared with the community.
Assist with planning and promoting fundraising campaigns, community events, and volunteer recruitment initiatives.

    • Research current marketing trends and recommend new ideas to increase community engagement.

    • Track social media engagement and provide basic analytics.

Training

The Marketing & Communications Intern will receive comprehensive training and ongoing mentorship throughout the internship. Training will include:

  • General agency orientation, including an overview of HIS-OC's mission, programs, and services.
  • Training on the organization's brand, messaging, and communication standards.
  • An introduction to nonprofit marketing, community engagement, and ethical storytelling.
  • Hands-on training in creating social media content, marketing materials, and digital campaigns using Canva and other marketing tools.
  • Weekly one-on-one meetings with a supervisor to review progress, provide feedback, and discuss professional development goals.
  • Job shadowing opportunities with leadership and staff to gain an understanding of nonprofit operations and community outreach.
  • Participation in team meetings, community events, and outreach activities to gain practical experience.
  • Guidance on developing a social media content calendar, tracking engagement metrics, and evaluating marketing effectiveness.
  • Opportunities to receive feedback on completed projects and build a professional portfolio.
