Population Health InternAt — San Antonio Regional Hospital
POSITION SUMMARY: The Population Health Department at San Antonio Regional Hospital is looking for students enrolled in a health-related Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to join our team as Population Health Interns. This internship provides students a unique opportunity to interface and contribute to the development and implementation of San Antonio Regional Hospital’s Population Health initiatives. Interns can expect to participate in a range of duties, including but not limited to research, health education, data collection and evaluation, health communications and marketing and community engagement. All Population Health Interns will be required to perform administrative duties as needed. These duties offer students practical experience and broad exposure to San Antonio Regional Hospital’s organizational structure and services. Project assignments may vary based on each applicant. The Population Health Intern represents San Antonio Regional Hospital both in and out of the hospital and must be confident in their ability to understand, communicate, and adequately disseminate health information to various populations. This non-clinical position does not involve direct or hands-on patient care. This is an in-person internship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s students pursuing a degree in Public Health, Community Health, Healthcare Administration, Leadership, Social Sciences, or other related fields. Students from other related fields with an interest in non-clinical healthcare are encouraged to apply.
2. Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in a College or University. Must have access to reliable transportation.
3. Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in public health practices including but not limited to
- Program planning, curriculum development, program evaluation
- Health education and community engagement
- Data collection and analysis
- Proficiency in the following applications and platforms including but not limited to
- Microsoft Office, Canva, Qualtrics
- Strong public speaking skills
- Have flexibility to shift from one project/program to another
- Leadership skills and effective communication skills on projects to explain data collection instructions and statistics to other team members or stakeholders
- Ability to work individually or collaboratively with a group
4. License/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License or ID
5. Equipment: Personal Computer
6. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
- Time Commitment: minimum 10 hours/week
- Internship Duration: End of August 2026 – Early December 2026
- Onsite Requirements: Interns are required to be present at assigned project sites for the duration of internship. This is an in-person internship.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Job functions will vary based on assignment. The Population Health Intern can expect to perform duties related to:
- Support work around CHNA priority issues (cardiovascular disease & diabetes, mental & behavioral health and maternal & infant health).
- Assist in organizing/implementing community and culturally appropriate health initiatives and programs to a variety of populations within the hospital’s service region.
- Identify, review, and develop resources that meet community health needs including but not limited to presentations, flyers, fact sheets etc.
- Assist with implementing, attending and evaluating workshops, programs and outreach events.
- Assist with data collection, review and analysis.
- Perform administrative duties as required by assignments undertaken.
- Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including but not limited to health fairs and community events as necessary.
- Explore state or local organizations that align with San Antonio Regional Hospital priority issue areas and identify opportunities for collaboration.

2. Performs other duties that are consistent with meeting departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
Training:
Students in the Non-Clinical Internship Program at San Antonio Regional Hospital are provided the following onboarding and in-service trainings:
- General Employer Orientation (mandatory)
- Office Norms & Professionalism (mandatory in-service training)
- Community Outreach & Engagement (mandatory in-service training)
- Classroom Management (mandatory in-service training)
- additional and on-going training opportunities as they relate to the duties assigned to students in the program.
Students in this program are required to meet with their preceptors at minimum once a week, have the opportunity to meet with a network of interdisciplinary providers (both clinical and non-clinical), and gain a variety of skills to ensure their readiness for the workforce post internship and education.
