Organization Description

Everyone plays a role in our community. The people of Council District Eight have joined us to lead an effort to house our unhoused neighbors – our District has the highest number of permanent supportive housing in the City. My team has pushed platforms for economic development and jobs – we also lead the City in Targeted Local Hires. We continue to advocate for more staff to keep our streets safe and clean while working to revitalize our main corridors. Together we have set the framework for transforming public safety through a multi-pronged on the ground approach and transformative policy.

Program Information

The student intern will support the South LA Olympic Procurement Initiative of Council District 8 (CD8) by performing a variety of administrative tasks. Key responsibilities include:
*Maintain the "Procure South LA" Master Procurement Calendar.
*Support small business outreach and RAMP registration efforts.
*Assist local businesses with LA28 and City procurement preparation and technical support.
*Compile and analyze small business procurement survey data.
*Coordinate community engagement events, including matchmaking summits.

CD8 will provide significant opportunities for growth and skill acquisition within a public service environment:
*Gain exposure to local government operations and legislative processes.
*Build technical proficiency in tools like Google Suite and AirTable.
*Develop professional skills in critical thinking, time management, and communication.
*Work alongside administrative and executive staff in a mentorship-based environment.

Health & Safety

CD8 prioritizes intern safety through established emergency policies, ongoing training, and an assigned on-site mentor. Key measures include:
1. Emergency Protocols: Standardized procedures for fire, earthquake, and active shooter incidents.
2. Safety Training: Ongoing training to ensure preparedness for various scenarios.
3. Incident Reporting: Immediate chain-of-command reporting for any injuries or facility damage.
