Opportunity Summary 

This dynamic opportunity allows students to engage in habitat restoration and native plant nursery care at Zedler Marsh in Long Beach. Students are provided a flexible field opportunity to work among peers to grow and establish native plants for habitat restoration on the border of Long Beach and Seal Beach. Grown plants will benefit a 100-acre large-scale restoration site in Seal Beach to benefit endangered species.

This opportunity has the benefit of being 100% field work which gives students a welcome break from a classroom setting.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students should learn about plant identification, nonnative plant control methods, plant care, watering techniques, plant propagation techniques that vary by species, and overall stewardship skills. 

Opportunity Training 

We teach by demonstration and we follow through to help guide students as they implement different practices.
