PR/Media InternAt — The deFIANT
As a Public Relations Intern at The deFIANT, interns will be an extension of the team and play an integral role in supporting the agency’s day-to-day tasks and operations. This hands-on, semester-long internship (14–16 weeks) offers interns the opportunity to gain valuable experience in public relations, branding, media relations, and influencer partnerships within a fast-paced agency setting.
Interns will have the opportunity to develop professional skills while supporting a variety of client accounts and learning the day-to-day responsibilities of a public relations agency. Responsibilities may include capturing media and influencer placements, conducting research for upcoming projects, brand partnerships and new business opportunities, and assisting with other ongoing client initiatives.

Help secure media coverage and identify relevant editorial opportunities
Research and pitch editors, journalists, and media contacts
Coordinate product gifting and influencer outreach
Track and capture media and influencer placements
Conduct research for upcoming campaigns, brand partnerships, and new business opportunities
Support the execution of day-to-day PR campaigns and agency initiatives
Assist the team with additional administrative and client-related tasks as needed, like working the day of events
Training:
Interns will begin their first day with a brief office tour and an introduction to the team. The onboarding process will also include familiarizing interns with the office amenities, including the refrigerator, microwave, and water dispenser, before getting them connected to the office Wi-Fi and set up at the intern workspace.
Interns will then be guided through logging into and setting up the required platforms and accounts, including their email, Canva, and Muck Rack. Training will cover key day-to-day agency responsibilities, including media monitoring, clipping, servicing, and maintaining client trackers, using Skylar’s Intern OneSheet as a reference and training resource.
Once onboarding and initial training are complete, interns will begin taking on daily assignments and supporting the team with a variety of PR-related tasks. Responsibilities may include pitch creation, building media and influencer lists, creating recap decks, monitoring coverage, updating trackers, and packing PR packages.
Interns will also participate in weekly one-on-one check-ins to discuss their progress, review completed work, address any questions or challenges, and identify areas for continued improvement and professional development throughout the internship.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, interns will have gained a foundational understanding of how a public relations agency operates and how PR strategies are developed and executed for a variety of clients. Interns will build practical experience in media relations, influencer outreach, brand communications, and campaign support while developing the professional skills needed to work in a fast-paced agency environment.
