Public Exhibitions & Gallery Assistant - Arts Council for Monterey CountyAt — Arts Council for Monterey County (AC4MC)
Students will support the planning, implementation, and coordination of Public Arts Exhibitions on behalf of the Arts Council for Monterey County in collaboration with fellow partners, officials, and organizations. Arts4MC maintains recurring juried exhibitions that bring artists, community organizations, business and workforce professionals, partners, and community audiences together.
Through hands-on participation, students will gain experience in arts administration, exhibit coordination, community engagement, partnership development, event coordination, and program documentation. This placement offers exposure to how exhibitions are developed, curated, organized, implemented, and managed through cross-sector collaboration. Working alongside Arts Council staff and exhibition partners, students will strengthen professional communication, project management, and relationship-building while learning how artists, organizations, and public partners collectively contribute to cultural life and community vitality.
By the end of the placement, students will have a stronger understanding of the value of community-centered art, public programming and opportunities, and a behind-the-scenes experience regarding curating public exhibitions.

Students will receive an orientation to the Arts Council’s Exhibitions Program, organizational policies, project goals, and implementation practices. Training will include timeline review, artist & partner communication, exhibition breakdown and installation, artist and partner engagement, documentation practices, and use of organizational systems and tools. Students will also receive guidance on professional communication, and collaborative project workflows.
