Restorative Practices Intervention InternAt — Project Kinship

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Program Coordinator, and assigned Restorative Practices staff at our Kinship Center, the Restorative Practices Intervention Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting restorative practices within assigned Orange County school district sites.

The intern will observe, assist with, and gradually co-facilitate Community-Building Circles, Restorative Conferences, Restorative Conversations, Re-entry Circles, and Support Circles involving students and school staff. Through training, job shadowing, and supervised practice, the intern will develop skills in youth engagement, conflict resolution, trauma-informed care, case management, and community collaboration.

Demonstrate effective restorative circle facilitation and mediation skills.
Apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices when supporting youth.
Strengthen conflict-resolution, de-escalation, and relationship-building abilities.
Develop case-management, referral, and care-coordination skills.
Collaborate effectively with students, families, schools, and community partners.
Maintain accurate, ethical, and confidential documentation.

Training Provided

Mandated Reporter training
Job shadowing with experienced restorative practices staff
Introduction to motivational interviewing with youth

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:

Demonstrate foundational restorative circle facilitation and mediation skills.

Use introductory motivational interviewing techniques to engage youth.
