Assisting disabled adults with independent living skills. 

Tasks:

Tasks: Duties include working with clients in a positive and engaging manner, using person centered planning to meet their wants and needs, Using tools such as an Individual service plan to assist and train the client with specific independent living skills. These skills may include but are not limited to - shopping within a budget and dietary guidelines, tending to personal hygiene and or sexual awareness, housekeeping skills, cooking skills, communication, home and community safety etc.

Note:

Anytime he is with a client he will be supervised by the coordinator or experienced field staff. He will never be alone in his duties. I will have my office help get the certificate of insurance to you but due to the holiday today our office is closed.

Training:

General orientation
mentoring/job shadowing
hands on in the field training

Learning Outcome:

Learning outcome: The intern will receive training education and hands on learning with how to work with the disabled and elderly population. This includes person centered planning and supports, getting to know the person and how to best provide them services, how to identify and secure community resources including low income resources and discounts. How to identify and de-escalate conflict before it becomes a dangerous situation, how to handle a crisis, how to prioritize tasks or issues, working as a team as well as on his own to meet the client's needs.  He will learn about confidentiality and how to separate his personal and professional opinions and actions.   He will learn about the challenges facing the people we serve and how to be create to find solutions and resources.
