Volunteer + Public Habitat RestorationAt — Nature Collective
Students work alongside skilled Nature Collective staff and volunteers to conduct habitat restoration and conservation activities within the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve to provide healthier waters and greater wildlife biodiversity. Activities include, removing invasive plants, propagating native plants, collecting and preparing native seeds, maintaining restored habitats, planting native plants, and monitoring restoration sites. Students may also support and assist participants during Public Habitat Restoration events.
Students will learn about native habitat restoration and conservation approaches, as well how native landscapes benefit wildlife and humans. They will gain hands-on experience with native plant restoration, identification, propagation, and monitoring. Students will work alongside skilled professionals and gain insight into career pathways for the environmental conservation industry.
Students will engage in an orientation/onboarding process to gain understanding into Nature Collective's policies and procedures, as well as organizational operations. Specific task/activity training will be provided "on the job" through direct coaching, instruction, and demonstration. The necessary tools and guidelines will be provided by staff.
All tasks and activities are conducted outside in natural spaces which include areas with uneven terrain, heavy vegetation, and exposure to various climate conditions.
Students will need reliable transportation to and from Nature Collective sites.
