Community Resilience Research & Communications InternAt — Field + Form LLC
Field + Form is a civic design and regenerative resilience consultancy supporting climate adaptation and community resilience on California's Central Coast. We seek a Community Resilience Research & Communications Intern to support our growing practice. Student interns will engage in four main areas: research and intelligence (tracking funding landscapes, building stakeholder databases, monitoring policy developments); communications and content (social media, newsletters, event promotions, thought leadership support); events and program support (coordinating Big Sur Fall Fest, symposiums, meetings); and administrative support (grant research, database management, proposal organization). This remote, flexible position is ideal for students interested in climate adaptation, civic engagement, nonprofit operations, and regional systems thinking. You'll develop skills in research, writing, event coordination, and grant writing fundamentals while contributing to real work advancing resilience on the Central Coast. Time commitment: 10-15 hours per week.
Student interns will receive: Initial onboarding on Field + Form's mission, theory of change, and regional resilience landscape (2-3 hours) Introduction to key stakeholders, partners, and organizations across the Central Coast Mentorship from Daniela Hinman (founder) with regular check-ins to discuss work, learning, and professional development Clear documentation of projects, workflows, and organizational systems Exposure to grant writing process, civic strategy development, and community engagement methods through observation and direct participation Feedback on research, writing, and communications work Flexibility to adjust tasks based on learning goals and interests Remote support via email, phone and video call Student interns will work independently on most tasks, with Daniela available for questions, guidance, and mentorship. We believe internships are mutual learning experiences and intern feedback matters and helps us improve how we work.
Student interns will receive training on data privacy and confidentiality protocols, including how to handle sensitive information securely. Communication follows professional standards via email and scheduled video calls with clear boundaries established during onboarding. Emergency contact information will be provided. Field + Form is committed to work-life balance — the 10-15 hour weekly commitment fits alongside the student's academic load, with flexibility during high-stress periods. Student interns are not expected to work nights or weekends. CSUMB student resources including counseling and wellness support are available.
Students interested in this internship should: Contact Daniela Hinman at daniela@fieldandformca.com or 831-238-8856 to express interest and ask questions. Submit a brief application including a one-page resume and a 250-300 word cover letter explaining your interest in climate resilience or civic engagement and what you hope to learn. Participate in a brief 20-30 minute phone or video conversation with Daniela to discuss the role and ensure it's a good fit.
