Teacher's Assistant - G. SchwenkAt — CSUF - College of Communications

This internship provides the student with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting in a classroom. The student is responsible for supporting the instructor in classroom management, student engagement, and course instruction. As a part of this internship, the student will also assist with grading, lesson preparation, and providing students with guidance and feedback to support their academic success.

Learning Outcomes  

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to demonstrate effective classroom management and student engagement strategies to support a productive learning environment; assist with lesson preparation, course instruction, and the development of instructional materials; apply effective communication, leadership, and mentorship skills when providing students with academic guidance and constructive feedback; demonstrate accuracy and professionalism in grading assignments and supporting student learning; and collaborate with instructors and peers to facilitate classroom activities, support course objectives, and enhance the overall educational experience.

Training  

To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide hands-on training in classroom management, student engagement, and instructional support through direct observation and guided practice. I will offer opportunities for the student to assist with lesson preparation, course instruction, and grading while providing constructive feedback to strengthen their teaching and organizational skills. Additionally, I will model effective communication, leadership, and student mentorship strategies, allowing the student to apply these techniques in a classroom setting. Lastly, I will conduct regular check-ins to evaluate the student’s progress, address challenges, and identify opportunities for continued professional growth.

Tasks/Duties  

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by assisting with classroom management, facilitating student engagement, and supporting course instruction. The intern will contribute to lesson preparation, develop instructional materials, and assist with grading assignments while providing students with constructive feedback and academic guidance. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with the instructor and peers to facilitate classroom activities, support course objectives, and promote a productive learning environment. Through these responsibilities, the intern will apply effective communication, leadership, organizational, and mentorship skills while demonstrating continued growth in instructional support and student engagement.
