Marketing Public Relations Intern-HyderAt — CSUF - Male Success Initiative

Under supervision of the MSI Student Peer Mentors/Leaders perform comprehensive support and service to ensure the mission of MSI-Fullerton is realized. MSI Student Support and Wellness Intern

assist in guiding and supporting an assigned group of MSI students on their personal growth, leadership development, and academic goals and coordinating events such as the Mental Health Check In. Additionally inform and refer students to campus resources and activities; create a one-to-one connection, build rapport, and support MSI scholars and fellows; serve as a role model and demonstrate work ethics; and participate in MSI activities and events. Other duties as assigned.

• Assists in supporting and mentoring an assigned group of MSI Brothers on their academic and professional development, as well as their personal growth
• Shares ideas with the MSI Counselor & Senior Career Post-Graduation Coordinator and Assistant Director of possible topics for the MSI B2B (Brother to Brother) monthly gatherings
• Assist with co facilitating wit our group Mental Health Check In
• Assists in promoting MSI through different campus venues and organized events
• Informs mentees of campus resources and activities
• Consults MSI Counselor & Senior Career Post-Graduation Counselor regarding referrals to on-campus resources
• Maintains one-on-one mentoring appointments
• Maintains organized, detailed record of appointments and communicates progress and needs to MSI professional staff
• Serves as a professional and academic role model and exhibit quality character of an MSI Brother
• Consults with and updates MSI professional staff regularly on ongoing projects
• Must be available to schedule Monday-Friday
• Other duties as assigned.

Learning Outcomes

Assist in the organization and implementation of a variety of activities and programs for the re-imagined MSI-Fullerton. This cohort-based program will provide comprehensive services for men of color via academic guidance, social transition, leadership & networking development, community in-reach, identity intersectionality awareness, and pre/post-graduation support. MSI-Fullerton’s priority goals for men of color are to nurture the resilience of current undergraduates, increase overall persistence and graduation rates, improve student engagement, and expand the pipelines of access. Supporting men of color in higher education is a national movement and a CSUF priority. MSI-Fullerton is working to improve both the educational and economic opportunities for men of color for the betterment of their families, communities, and our nation. Program aspects include regularly scheduled engagement sessions, one: one success coaching, summer brother-2-brother retreat, access & in-reach pipeline programs, allocation of funding/resources, sponsored research & publication opportunities, conferences & convention travel, and special events.

Training

Provide individual supervision on the weekly basis. I will also provide the student with opportunities to lead projects and events such as Senior Orientation, Alumni Panel, First Gen Week, develop posters and flyers for events. Write posts for publications.

Tasks/Duties

Assessment results, feedback from supervisor and team. In addition, ask student intern to provide feedback about each event and what worked, what needs to be changed, and gather new ideas. Student intern will also do presentations to work on public speaking and confidence.
