You can make an Impact through service learning. Mental health challenges can affect adolescents, families, schools, and entire communities. At Mission Prep Teen Treatment, we believe healing is strengthened through connection, collaboration, and meaningful experiences. Through service learning at Mission Prep, students can turn what they are learning into meaningful action. Opportunities may include wellness projects, creative or recreational activities, community improvement, resource drives, and projects that promote mental health awareness and connection. Students are not expected to be therapists they are invited to be positive members of a community while developing empathy, leadership, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of adolescent mental health. Small acts of service can create meaningful moments of connection, belonging, and hope.
Mission Prep Teen Treatment offers students a meaningful service-learning opportunity to gain exposure to adolescent behavioral health while contributing to a supportive residential treatment community. Students interested in psychology, social work, healthcare, education, human services, or community engagement can gain real-world experience while developing skills in communication, teamwork, leadership, empathy, and professionalism. Service-learning opportunities may include supporting wellness and recreational initiatives, creative projects, mental health awareness activities, community improvement efforts, resource development, and other projects that promote connection and belonging for adolescents in treatment. No clinical experience is required. This opportunity is ideal for compassionate, dependable, and motivated students seeking service hours, professional development, career exploration, and a meaningful way to make a positive impact in the lives of young people.
Students will receive an orientation and ongoing guidance from Mission Prep staff to ensure they feel prepared and supported in their service-learning role. Training will include an introduction to adolescent mental health and residential treatment, trauma-informed care principles, professional boundaries, confidentiality and privacy, effective communication with adolescents, cultural humility, appropriate responses to emotional or behavioral concerns, and program-specific safety expectations. Students will also receive instruction specific to their assigned activities and will work under staff supervision. Students are not expected to provide clinical care or independently manage behavioral or mental health concerns.
Students will be provided ongoing onsite training following initial orientation period.
