Embedded SystemsAt — neatMon, Inc.
neatMon is interested in hosting students for hands-on internships involving embedded systems, firmware development, electronics, and mechatronics. Internship projects may include developing firmware for embedded devices, designing and building hardware test fixtures for new product designs, developing automated testing and validation systems, and creating tools or processes that improve the assembly and quality-control of connected hardware products. Students may work with microcontrollers, sensors, communications interfaces, custom electronics, test equipment, embedded software, and supporting software or automation tools. Projects will be based on active product-development and manufacturing needs, giving students the opportunity to contribute to systems that are ultimately deployed in real-world agricultural, water-management, and industrial applications.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have gained practical experience applying classroom concepts to real-world embedded systems and product-development challenges. Depending on the project, students may learn how to design and build hardware test fixtures, develop and debug firmware for microcontrollers, interface with sensors and electronic components, create automated validation and quality-control processes, document engineering work, and troubleshoot hardware and software systems. Students will also gain experience working within an active engineering environment, including defining requirements, testing prototypes, evaluating results, iterating on designs, and communicating technical findings with a development team.
Students will receive orientation to neatMon’s products, development environment, engineering processes, and applicable safety procedures. Training will include guidance on the specific hardware, firmware, test equipment, software tools, documentation practices, and development workflows required for their assigned projects. Students will work under the direction of experienced technical staff and will receive virtual instruction, code and design review, troubleshooting support, and regular feedback throughout the internship. Training will be adapted to the student’s background so they can progressively take on more independent responsibility as they become familiar with the systems and tools.
