Opportunity Summary 

The Behavior Interventionist will work one-on-one with clients and families in the homes, and out in the community. They will provide high-quality ABA Therapy with the training and support by their supervisors and clinical team. They will use tech software for data collection, note taking, and running assigned programs and treatment plan. They will also be provided on-going trainings in the field and participate in clinical meetings as needed. Behavior Interventionist will be performing structured, supervised, skill-based clinical activities that require application of concepts learned in ongoing training and consistent supervision. 

Tasks:

During the academic internship, the student will participate in supervised professional activities under the direction of a BCBA. Duties will include implementing individualized ABA treatment programs; collecting and recording behavioral and skill-acquisition data; applying evidence-based strategies such as prompting, reinforcement, modeling, shaping, and error correction; supporting communication, social, adaptive, and daily living skill development; and assisting with skill generalization across settings and people. The student will observe and document client behavior, communicate relevant observations to the clinical team, participate in supervision and team meetings, receive and apply professional feedback, and assist with preparing treatment materials and visual supports. The student will also maintain objective clinical documentation and demonstrate professional standards related to confidentiality, ethics, client dignity, safety, and professional boundaries.

Training:

Students will receive structured training and supervision throughout the placement to support the development of professional ABA skills. Training will include a mandatory initial employer orientation covering agency policies, confidentiality, ethics, safety, documentation, and Behavior Interventionist responsibilities. Students will participate in hands-on ABA skills training, role-play, modeling, and competency assessments focused on data collection, skill acquisition, prompting, reinforcement, behavior intervention, and professional documentation.

Each student will participate in weekly one-on-one mentor meetings with their assigned supervisor to review progress toward learning outcomes, discuss clinical experiences and challenges, receive individualized feedback, and identify additional learning opportunities. Students will also receive practical opportunities to implement skills and contextual explanations of clinical tasks to connect with practical application. Ongoing supervision, performance feedback, and competency testing will allow students to progressively develop and demonstrate proficiency in their assigned responsibilities.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to accurately collect and record data on skill acquisition and behavior reduction targets using established ABA data collection procedures.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to identify potential functions of behavior and describe how function-based interventions are used to decrease maladaptive behavior and increase appropriate replacement behaviors.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to recognize behavioral precursors and environmental variables that may contribute to changes in client behavior and appropriately communicate observations to the supervising BCBA.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior by maintaining client confidentiality, dignity, safety, professional boundaries, and adherence to agency policies
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to demonstrate increased independence in clinical decision-making within the scope of their role while appropriately seeking guidance from the supervising BCBA when concerns or questions arise
