Opportunity Summary 

526 Media Group is seeking an ambitious, detail-oriented Editorial Assistant to join our growing editorial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented writer and editor who wants to build a long-term career in publishing. Responsibilities include writing daily news stories, developing feature articles, proofreading and copyediting editorial content, assisting with content planning, and creating weekly email newsletters. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with excellent grammar and writing skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

As we launch several new publications throughout 2027, we are looking for someone who can grow quickly with the company, take on increasing responsibility, and help shape the future of our expanding media portfolio.

Duties:

Primary duties may include:
Researching, writing, and editing news stories for print and digital publication.
Developing feature articles through background research, interviews, and information gathering.
Proofreading and copyediting editorial content to ensure accuracy, consistency, grammar, style, and adherence to publication standards.
Assisting with content planning by identifying newsworthy topics, developing story ideas, and contributing to editorial calendars.
Creating and formatting weekly email newsletters.
Participating in editorial meetings and contributing ideas for content development and audience engagement.
Learning and applying editorial style guides, publishing standards, and best practices for professional journalism and business publishing.
Reviewing analytics and audience engagement data to better understand content performance and reader interests.
Collaborating with editors, writers, designers, and other staff members to support publication production schedules and deadlines.
The focus of the internship is the development of professional writing, editing, research, communication, and publishing skills in a real-world media environment.

Training:

  • Studentswill receive structured training and ongoing mentorship designed to support the learning outcomes of the placement.
  • Training will begin with a general company orientation covering 526 Media
  • Group's publications, audiences, editorial standards, and workflows, and introduced to the editorial team.
  • Throughout the internship, the student will meet regularly with an assigned supervisor for one-on-one mentoring, feedback, and progress reviews. These meetings will provide opportunities to discuss assignments, address questions, evaluate performance, and identify areas for skill development.
  • The student will receive hands-on training in news writing, feature writing, proofreading, copyediting, headline writing, newsletter production, and editorial planning.
  • The student will also gain exposure to publication planning meetings, editorial decision-making processes, and the collaborative workflows involved in producing a wide range of media products.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
• Research, write, and edit professional-quality content that meets editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and audience engagement.
• Apply proofreading and copyediting techniques to improve grammar, style, consistency, and overall quality of published content.
• Plan, create, and distribute email newsletters, while developing skills to track audience engagement.
• Manage multiple editorial projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in a professional publishing environment.
• Collaborate effectively with editors, writers, designers, and other team members while developing an understanding of editorial workflows and publication production processes.
