Inspire girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold!
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria offers several programs to get involved:
1) EUREKA! - 5-year College Bound Program based on STEM. Incorporates physical fitness, personal development, and college and career readiness.
2) STEM - STEM programming will take place daily across all age groups, with a focus on middle and high school students. Service-learning students can assist with STEM stations and activities.
3) LITERACY - Students can help with curriculum and lesson building for 4th-5th graders and teens. Students can also read one-on-one with elementary-age girls
4) HEALTHY SEXUALITY - Sexual health programming for middle and high school students during the school day. Students can help translate oral and written materials for Spanish-speaking only parents that attend the programs.
5) COMMUNITY PANTRY - Girls Inc. receives several shipments of fresh donations a week from local grocery stores and caterers. Students can help with sorting, organizing, and distributing food donations to the local community.
6) FAMILY NIGHTS - Students can help assist with planning and hosting monthly family nights
7) AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS - Students can help teach/coach/design curriculum for youth sports, dance clinics, music lessons, gymnastics, and more! There is also a big need for students to teach workshops about financial aid, scholarships, personal statements, and other college-specific topics.
8) FUNDRAISERS - Students can help with event planning, promotion, and soliciting donations for Women of Inspiration (April) and the annual fundraiser gala (September)
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria is also interested in working directly with faculty from varied disciplines to build service-learning projects that support course outcomes.
Students will learn about mentoring young girls and becoming a role model. They will also learn to plan and facilitate their own hands on activities, along with planning, hosting and supporting during family engagement nights
Part of the onboarding process will require students to complete online trainings (Girls Inc 101, Facilitating 101, Trauma and Toxic stress and Supporting youth through a trauma-informed approach) along with shadowing current staff in the classroom. Students will also participate in ongoing staff trainings.
All staff members will be required to wear a mask while on campus and to follow social distancing protocols. Upon arrival, students will fill out a health screening questionnaire and temperature check.
