Opportunity Summary 

1) Collecting stories from tax filers participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. We collect data but need to balance the impact of the data with stories of how clients benefit from free tax preparation and how the tax credits they receive impact their lives, improving their financial security and how they are able to utilize the financial literacy information provided.

2) Can also use student support for VolunteerVenturaCounty, the online volunteer data base, to increase outreach to both agencies and potential volunteers.

3) Students are needed to assist with coordinating and implementing community events, assisting with assessing community needs and developing strategies to address those needs, and assisting with surveying/data collection.

 

United Way of Ventura County is also interested in working directly with faculty from varied disciplines to build service-learning projects that support course outcomes.

Understanding the purpose and benefits of the VITA program, instruction on elements of a good story and how to tell it, understanding protecting client privacy
