Environmental Justice InternAt — Central Valley Air Quality Coalition (CVAQ)

Opportunity Summary 

Work with community based partners on documenting, analyzing, and addressing major air pollution sources in environmental justice neighborhoods (communities of color and low income communities where pollution is concentrated) to help provide immediate protections and advocate for long term improvements. Duties and assignments negotiable depending on interests and capacities. Interest in environmental justice issues and community engaged work required. Geographic information systems and/or bilingual language skills desirable.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

tools and experience in how to conduct community engaged and participatory research

Opportunity Training 

4-5 hours on Air Pollution and Environmental Justice Issues in the San Joaquin Valley
2-3 hours on conducting field observations
2-3 hours on best practices for community engagement

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

any site visits near major pollution sources, N95 masks will be provided and safety tips reviewed
