Communications InternshipAt — UNITE HERE Local 11
UNITE HERE Local 11's Communications team is looking for interns that have a passion for social justice and enthusiasm for uplifting the stories of working people. Headlines and soundbites rarely feature the lives and struggles of everyday people - that's what makes our jobs so important. We do the work to ensure that the housekeepers, dishwashers, bartenders and baristas that are on the frontlines of the fight for justice are the face and voice of that struggle.
- Basics of worker organizing following the Local 11 model (listening, telling your story in a powerful way, making connections, inspiration)
- Tailor a message to a specific audience or platform
- Basic experience in what it takes to pitch a story to the media in order to uplift the fight for social justice
- Creatively strategize in Communications' role in organizing
- Accept and give constructive feedback to a team
The Communications team is directly involved with all activities at Local 11. Strategy around the events that we plan and execute flow through our team. We are on the frontlines of the messaging campaigns and consequently the public-facing aspects of those campaigns.
Students will get firsthand experience in strategy sessions and discussions, development of all the visual content, speaking with workers and helping to develop their stories, and analyzing the success (or where there is room for improvement).
We ask that all interns be fully-vaccinated and adhere to our strict safety protocols.
