Opportunity Summary 

At the HSLB students will receive practical and hands on experience working in a museum setting using best practices to handle and accession collections. They will assist the Processing Archivist with new collections, special projects related to current and upcoming exhibits, and other regular duties of Archivists, Curators, and Collection Managers.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will learn how to handle objects, construct housing, accession objects, environmental monitoring, preventive conservation, archival materials and their uses, how to use and create finding aids, and other skills necessary to work in museums and archives.

Opportunity Training 

All training will be hands-on with direct supervision of the Processing Archivist.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will have to work with sharp or hot tools to construct object housing. They will be thoroughly trained before being allowed to use the tools unsupervised.
