Environmental EducatorAt — Bird School Project
The Bird School Project (BSP) is an environmental education program that uses outdoor experiential learning to inspire students and teachers to love, study and steward their local environment. Service learners will Co-facilitate BSP life science lessons in schools, engage students, and encourage curiosity by asking questions.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Available for a minimum of one morning (8am - 12pm), ideally one full school day (8am-3:30pm) per week
- 5 hours per week
- Participate in a reflective learning practice by debriefing each day of teaching with the education team.
- Build positive relationships with school teachers, students, and BSP staff.
Locations include sites in Salinas, Monterey, Watsonville, Santa Cruz, CA
10 service learner spots
Requirements:
- Must be available for training between Feb 6-10, 2023 (exact times TBD)
- Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
- TB Test
- Vaccinations
- Bilingual Desired (Spanish/English)
Orientation and Training will occur between the days of February 6th- 10th
- Practice birding, identification, and nature journaling
- Train on teaching strategies, discussion, and questioning strategies
On-going support via:
- Frequent check-ins with site supervisor
- Support from other Bird School Project staff
- Training, practicing, reflecting and feedback
