Ranch AssistantAt — The Equine Healing Collaborative (EHC)

Opportunity Summary 

The Equine Healing Collaborative was created to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery, personal growth, a re-connection with the natural world, and/or emotional insight and health. The EHC offers more than just traditional talk therapy and utilizes interventions such as equine assisted psychotherapy therapy, mindfulness, and mindful equine massage to promote health and quality of life for individuals seeking change.

EHC is looking for CSUMB service learners to assist with miscellaneous tasks to ensure equine ranch functionality, including:

  • Mucking pastures
  • Keeping allocated areas tidy such as the feed room, tack room and storage areas.
  • Keeping the yard tidy and weeding/gardening as necessary.
  • Tack cleaning.
  • Caring for equines living out in the field.
  • Field checks to maintain a safe environment for all equines, including water, fencing, etc.
  • Grooming.
  • Preparing feeds, adding medicines or supplements to equine's food.

The ranch is located along Highway 68, near Pasadera / Boots Rd.

Requirements:

  • Vaccinations
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-placement training

Opportunity Training 

Students will be trained one-on-one on how to go about their duties. There will be personnel available to assist in questions or provide feedback on tasks. There will also be protocols and videos to reference if those are also needed.

 

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

There may be safety hazards (such as biting or kicking) as students will be working with live, large animals. Spatial and emotional awareness is key in prevented and resolving hazardous situations. Students may want to purchase composite toe boots to prevent hazards.
