OCAPICA Youth College Intern - Workshop OutreachAt — Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA)
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, a strong team player and student-oriented intern will coordinate and implement strategic outreach and community engagement efforts to increase awareness of and enrollment into OCAPICA’s Youth Programs. The candidate will assist in workshop outreach on various topics to AUHSD schools. The candidate must have the ability to build and maintain rapport with students, fellow interns, OCAPICA staff, and AUHSD faculty. Ability to work with diverse ethnic and cultural communities is a must, including, but not limited to the following target populations: students of color, LGBTQIA+, and/or undocumented immigrants of varying ages between 13-18. This is a position where student hours and workload are considered and accommodated.
Tasks:
Plan and facilitate youth workshops during and after-school (in-person and virtual)
-Plan and facilitate supplemental sessions and events of various dates/days, times and locations
-Participate in curriculum adjustment and development of program materials
-Conduct outreach activities to promote services and recruit program participants
-Host student engagement activities
-Attendance at all team meetings
-Create and manage social media content (create Instagram posts via Canva, flyers, etc.)
-Other projects as assigned to meet program and agency mission, goals, and objectives
-Complete other tasks as assigned to meet program and agency mission, goals, and objectives
Training:
- General employer orientation
- Facilitation 101
- Mentoring and Mandated Reporter
- Youth Suicide Prevention Training
- Bystander Training
- Weekly preparation meetings with team
Learning Outcomes:
- Facilitate and plan youth workshops and events
- Work on a diverse team consisting of youth staff and interns
- Learn the structure of a nonprofit organization and how it operates
- Increase their interpersonal skills working with high school youth
