Opportunity Summary 

Service learners in this opportunity at USDA-ARS will:

  • perform laboratory activities. Laboratory techniques include extraction, polymerase chain reaction, and gel electrophoresis using plant samples.
  • help manage a project regarding a virus affecting lettuce. Includes scoring symptoms and performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
  • help with greenhouse and nursery activities. Includes watering and fertilizing plants.

  • Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
  • Driver's License
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Vaccinations
