Opportunity Summary 

Donor Prospect/ Researcher Internship 
 

StandUp for Kids - Orange County was launched in 2003 with a single focus: to end the cycle of youth homelessness in our community. We work to provide basic needs, housing, mentoring support, care, and love to at-risk and homeless youth ages 12-24. 

As a Donor Prospect and Researcher intern, you will be responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing potential donors for StandUp for Kids. You will use various sources of information, such as databases, websites, social media, publications, and networks, to find and evaluate prospective donors who share our vision and mission. You will also prepare and update donor profiles, reports, and recommendations to support our fundraising strategies and goals. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Research and analyze information on current and prospective donors (business life, affiliations, net worth estimates, giving history/capacity, public life if any, education, family life, and any other details so needed by the organization) 
  • Write concise summaries with attachments to be used by the Executive Director, and Development Manager for fundraising purposes 
  • Conduct research following the Development Manager’s orientation 
  • Gather, analyze and report information on individuals, foundations, corporations, community organizations, and other grant makers 
  • Ensure accessibility of the filing system 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a similar field; or be a recent graduate who completed their degree in one of the above-mentioned fields. 
  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills. 
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office 365, and online research tools. 
  • Familiarity with donor databases, such as Bloomerang 
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team. 
  • Interest and passion for ending the cycle of youth homelessness and StandUp for Kids values.

Time Commitment: 

 

  • 10-15 hours per week 
  • 3-6 months duration 

 

Additional Requirements: 

 

  • Intern must be 18+ years of age 
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check and submit $18 fee for processing 
  • Submit resume and cover letter 
  • Successfully complete an interview for a position with staff member 
  • Completion of all required orientation and training 

  • Must properly handle and maintain confidential information 
  • Complete evaluation surveys as requested by staff 
  • Must maintain regular attendance, as stipulated by staff member 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Lift, bend, sit, walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Use a phone and /or computer for extended periods 
  • Carry up to 15 lbs
