Youth Development InternAt — Thomas House Shelter

Opportunity Summary 

Intern will support the day-to-day care and supervision of youth who reside in the shelter, as well as children who have recently graduated from the program. The specialist will monitor youth to ensure for their safety and enforcing rules/setting limits as appropriate. The specialist is also responsible for mentoring and guiding youth social skills, personal competence, and individual responsibility while fostering self-esteem.

Intern will be supervised at all times while with the children. 

Intern will assist the Academic Development Coordinator with the following:

· Direct care and supervision of children, volunteers, and interns during homework and
activity time.
· Create a safe, orderly, and nurturing environment for children.
· Plan and coordinate an evening homework and activity program for the Thomas House
children and graduates.
· Drive company vehicle to shuttle residents to and from off-site events, using safe driving
skills and maintaining trip records.
· Complete monthly service log.
· Mandatory supervision of all offsite resident activities and events.
· Establish and maintain relationships with other agencies and organizations in the
community to meet the children’s and teens’ educational needs.
· Supervise children, volunteers, and interns during homework and activity time.
· Maintain an orderly environment in the Children’s Room, kitchen, bathroom, and library.
