Opportunity Summary 

The Intern will provide workforce development assistance to the Program Coordinator, by assisting the job seeker/student but not limited to case management, resume/cover letter design, career exploration, resource guidance, digital job board management, job searching tools, client tracking systems, government job seeker programs, business development, community networking and other duties as assigned.

Learning Outcomes  

  • Provide case management style approaches to job seekers and students
    • Create a case management style tracking system for client follow-up services
    • Assist job seekers and students in finding federal, state, and local resources for job placement and job training
    • Assist job seekers in creating CalJOBS and CalCaeers accounts for employment opportunities
    • Provide job seekers and students with professional developmental feedback on resumes, cover letters, and job applications
    • Create a safe and welcoming environment for job seekers and students who need career development
    • Understand how to work with specialized populations, such as veterans.
    • Develop a familiarization with the Department of Labor Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) program

Training  

  • Provide the student with educational and background knowledge on workforce development
    • Describe case management concepts and approaches when assisting job seekers and students
    • Provide research material for WIOA concepts, laws, and services; as well as the special populations that WIOA serves
    • Accurately track client advances and outcomes through case management style software
    • Effectively guide job seekers in creating CalJOBS and CalCaeers accounts for employment opportunities
    • Provide examples of job curation and resume tailoring

Tasks/Duties  

  • 1 on 1 meetings with job seekers and students to assist in job search
    • Creating, managing, and updating case management style software for client tracking and caseload management
    • Provide guidance on creating career searching tools such as CalJOBS, CalCareers, and other employment websites
    • Educate and train job seekers and students on how to find federal, state, and local employment resources (i.e., WIOA)
    • Examine and review resumes/cover letters for consistency, relatability to job descriptions, and relevant skills/ experience
    • Follow up and check in with job seekers through emails, phone calls, and in-person sessions
    • Update, maintain, and manage the digital job board
    • Reach out and engage with private, public and non-profit employers for potential collaborations and employment opportunities
