Cultural Resource Management InternAt — California Cultural Resources Preservation Alliance, Inc.

Opportunity Summary 

Assist the California Cultural Resources Preservation Alliance Inc. with activities related to the protection and preservation of cultural resources.

Tasks:

1. A summary addressing questions regarding the mission of CCRPA and key elements of cultural resource management.
2. An opinion report regarding the pros and cons of the treatment of Native American values with respect to cultural resources.
3. The preparation of a letter to environmental planners and comments on at least two EIRs.
4. A brief summary of the materials prepared and interactions with the public while assisting with CCRPA booth events.
5. A critique of exhibits and interpretive materials at two interpretive centers.

Training:

1. Provide an orientation regarding CCRPA's mission and access to required literature and materials regarding cultural resource management. Assign questions to evaluate student's comprehension and progress. Meet with student as needed to provide guidance and feedback.
2. Assign readings and materials pertaining to Native American values. Meet with the student as needed to provide guidance and feedback.
3.. Student will assist with the CCRPA Booth at the Panhe Celebration of Preservation in San Clemente and the Earth Day event at Newport Beach Back Bay.
4. Provide the student with a list of city planning departments to contact for Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs). Assign the preparation of a letter requesting the reports for review and comment. Meet with student as needed to provide feedback and guidance.
5. Student will be assigned two interpretive centers to visit and critique. Guidance and feedback will be provided.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Demonstrate advocacy skills for increasing public awareness of California Cultural Resources Preservation Alliance, Inc. (CCRPA) role in the community.
2. Demonstrate Interpersonal skills including active learning when communicating with the public about CCRPA's preservation work in the community.
3. Demonstrate leadership and referral skills in relation to CCRPA's preservation work in the community.
4.. Demonstrate task and management skills when working with CCRPA's data and record management.
5. Demonstrate critical thinking when working with related preservation issues.
