Afterschool Program InstructorAt — Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide homework assistance and tutoring; fun learning activities that are curriculum driven; and outcome-based enrichment and/or recreation activities such as sports and games, arts and crafts, computer, cooking, dance and drama to a group of 20 students. Work under the direction of the Site Supervisor to plan, implement, supervise and evaluate related activities for these students at school-site-based afterschool program during the school year.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
a. Promote and stimulate program participation;
b. Participate in orientation of new members;
c. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
Program Development and Implementation
2. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members and visitors.
3. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the site at all times.
4. Prepare periodic activity reports.
5. Carry out the site’s planned program of literacy-oriented activities for students to develop and strengthen their academic and social skills.
6. Select a variety of activities appropriate to students of various age groups.
7. Review program plans with Site Director for effective program implementation.
8. Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
9. Instruct students in safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
10. Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment.
11. Inspect the site and equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective action to prevent injuries.
12. Provide quality interaction with parents, teachers and school staff
13. Ensure measurable improvement in students’ academic and social performance.
14. Prepare weekly lesson plans outlining planned activities.
15. Perform a variety of routine clerical duties.
Supervision
16. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in regular staff meetings.
17. Participate in on-going training opportunities.
Resource Development
18. Assist with fundraising activities.
19. Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with school site staff, school site principal (or designee), members, families and the general public to give and obtain information, either in response to inquiries or as instructed by supervisor.
SKILLS/KNOWLDEGE REQUIRED:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Pass a para-professional proficiency test (Instructional Aide)
• Ability to work with school-age students.
• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to deal with the general public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• Ability to obtain mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Valid State Drivers License
• Tuberculosis Bacillus (TB) and Fingerprinting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may require periodic lifting and the ability to carry 30 pounds.
