Infection Preventionist intern is responsible for;
- Identifying, investigating, monitoring, and reporting healthcare-associated infections and communicable diseases.
- Looking for patterns of infection within the facility.
- Observing practices.
- Educating healthcare teams.
- Advising hospital leaders and other professionals.
- Compiling infection data.
Tasks
Hand hygiene observations of healthcare workers and monitoring for compliance with bundles to prevent health care acquired infections among our patients including central line bloodstream infections and urinary catheter infections. Using CDC guidelines to identify healthcare acquired infections in the hospital setting.
Training
Weekly scheduled one-on-one mentoring sessions.
CDC- National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) training.
Learning Outcomes
Define the Purpose of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program: The student will understand the fundamental role of IPC programs in healthcare settings. These programs aim to prevent and control infections, safeguard patients, and maintain a safe environment.
