Opportunity Summary 

As a Student Engagement Fieldwork Intern, you will play a vital role in enhancing the student experience by walking students through the steps of obtaining an internship. This multifaceted position will involve creating engaging content for social media, presenting to students, hosting workshops and informational sessions, assisting with data entry tasks, assisting with event planning for the bi-annual Fieldwork Day event, and responding to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner. This role requires a passion for social media, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff.

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by engaging in the following tasks, activities, and duties:
1. Creating and scheduling social media posts to promote student events and workshops showcasing their proficiency in social media management tools
2. Presenting informational sessions or workshops to students on topics related to the internship process and other professional development opportunities, showcasing their public speaking and workshop facilitation skills.
3. Assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of the bi-annual Fieldwork Day event, demonstrating their event planning and logistical management abilities.
4. Managing and updating databases or spreadsheets to update internship site contacts, event attendance, or student inquiries, demonstrating their proficiency in data management and organization.
5. Responding to student inquiries and concerns via email or other communication channels in a timely and professional manner, demonstrating their customer service skills and ability to address diverse student needs effectively.
6. Collaborating with student organizations and other staff or faculty to promote events through social media, in class presentations, and workshops, demonstrating their teamwork and collaboration skills.
7. Reflecting on their internship experiences, identifying areas of growth, setting personal development goals, and seeking feedback from supervisors and peers to continuously improve and strive towards achieving the learning outcomes.
These tasks and activities will serve as tangible evidence of the intern's progress towards achieving the learning outcomes outlined for the internship position.

Training:

To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will employ the following specific training methods:
1. Hands-on Experience: The supervisor will provide the student with opportunities for hands-on experience in social media management by assigning tasks such as creating content. The student will actively participate in managing the organization's social media accounts under supervision, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and develop practical skills in social media management.
2. Shadowing and Mentoring: The supervisor will offer shadowing opportunities where the student can observe and learn from experienced professionals during public speaking engagements and meetings. Additionally, the supervisor will serve as a mentor, providing guidance, feedback, and constructive criticism to help the student improve their communication skills, event planning abilities, and overall performance throughout the internship.
3. Training Workshops: The supervisor will organize training meetings covering topics such as event planning, public speaking, data management, and customer service. These meetings will include presentations, interactive activities, and practice scenarios to enhance the student's knowledge, skills, and confidence in key areas relevant to their internship responsibilities. The student will have the opportunity to practice new skills in a supportive environment and receive feedback from both the supervisor.
4. Feedback and Reflection: The supervisor will conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations to provide feedback on the student's progress, strengths, areas for improvement, and alignment with the learning outcomes. Additionally, the supervisor will encourage the student to engage in self-reflection activities, such as journaling or goal-setting exercises, to deepen their understanding of their learning journey, identify areas for growth, and set personal development goals for the remainder of the internship.

Learning Outcomes:

1. The student will develop foundational skills in event planning and coordination by assisting in the organization and execution of an internship fair, gaining experience in logistical planning, promotion, vendor coordination, and attendee engagement. This hands-on involvement will enhance their ability to manage event timelines, troubleshoot logistical challenges, and collaborate effectively to ensure successful and impactful events.
2. By the end of the internship, the student will have developed advanced skills in social media management, including content creation and engagement strategies, through hands-on experience in promoting fieldwork office events.
3. The student will gain proficiency in public speaking and workshop facilitation by regularly presenting to students and hosting informational sessions on campus, honing their ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and engage diverse audiences.
4. The student will acquire practical experience in data management and organization by assisting with database maintenance, data entry tasks, and analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, enhancing their ability to manage and analyze information effectively in a professional setting.
5. Through responding to student inquiries and providing support services, the student will develop strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities, gaining experience in addressing diverse student needs and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.
6. The student will deepen their understanding of student affairs and human services principles, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities in supporting student success, fostering campus community, and advocating for student needs within a higher education environment.
