Community Development Organizing InternAt — Central Valley Empowerment Alliance

Opportunity Summary 

Students will be emersed with the Mexican/Central American farmworkers, Indigenous, Filipino and Yemeni populations residing in Tulare County's rural unincorporated communities of Tulare County. The student will have the opportunity to work alongside with UFW founding organizers like labor and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, Lupe Martinez, the nurse of the movement Ruth Martinez, Yolanda Chacon, and Filipino community development organizer Cynthia Bonta. The student too will have the opportunity to work alongside New York Time photojournalist and USC professor on the Tierra Mia Festival scheduled for July 26th were artist from throughout the Central Valley will capture the richness our rural communities in the Tulare County and the Central Valley. Our rural communities want to be seen and are drafting our collective narrative--our voice, our story, our history. The students will attend the Youth Leadership Conference at La Paz, the resting place of Cesar and Helen Chavez.
