Orange Grove Beautification: U100 OpportunityAt — CSUN Energy and Sustainability, Facilities Planning Design and Construction
Students will participate in cleaning up the grounds around the trees and pond of decaying oranges, fallen branches, and litter. This creates a better-looking environment, keeps trash away from wildlife, and frees up precious time for more specialized projects for CSUN Grounds to do.
Staff Lead: Aspen Coty with California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) Fellow TBD
Pre-assignment: Watch educational video (will add link) before Orange Grove activity.
Class Time Required: One class session in the Orange Grove.
Students will learn about the CSUN Orange Grove and Pond, its history, and its management. While many see this area as a vital campus asset, many students spend their whole college careers not knowing anything about it. Although it can be a beautiful backdrop for a picnic or graduation photos, it has been abused by litter from confetti and trash, invasive species drop-offs, and aging infrastructure. Students will learn how CSUN is mitigating these impacts while conserving water, providing oranges to the Food Pantry, and increasing biodiversity.
