Child Life StudentAt — Miller Children's and Women's Hospital
Child Life Department relies on having capable and confident students to assist with patient and family needs. Students provide tremendous support to our department by helping to run hospital playroom sessions and by enabling our team to reach more families with support and services.
Tasks:
Students will supervise and engage children of all ages in developmentally appropriate activities in a hospital playroom setting. Students will provide emotional support and comfort items to patients and families at the bedside. Student will collaborate with hospital staff to help with toy sanitation, special events, patient birthday celebrations, and distribution of donations.
Training:
Student attend initial orientation covering working practices, emergency procedures and daily expectations. Student will be supervised by Child Life Specialist and can meet weekly to review progress and provide mentorship.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to demonstrate a great comfort level working with children of various ages and diagnosis. Increased interpersonal communication, time management and leadership skills.
