Psychology Research Assistant (PSYC 499 - Dr. Okado)At — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science
Research assistant openings, typically taken for course credit via PSYC 499 (lab research), are available in Dr. Yuko Okado's lab in the Psychology Department at the beginning of each semester (Fall, Spring) and Summer.
This is a great opportunity for students that are interested in gaining research experience for graduate school and/or getting exposure to interdisciplinary research focused on student outreach!
Duties:
Help with research tasks, including:
- Participant recruitment and management
- Data checking and coding
- Editing transcripts and videos involved in our AI-based mentoring platform
- Testing online platforms and surveys under development
- Conducting literature searches
You will be working primarily on the Psychology Pathways project, a STEM outreach project funded by the National Science Foundation. The project uses virtual agent-mentors to make it easier for students to access mentorship and career information in Psychology.

Desired Qualifications:
- Excellent professionalism, communication skills, initiative/drive, and attention to detail
- Ability to commit to working a minimum of 8 hours per week during the workweek (scheduled between Mondays-Fridays 9am-5pm)
- Ability to commit to being a part of the lab 2 or more semesters
- Attendance at lab meetings (schedule TBD), with additional meetings as needed
- Comfort with learning and using different computer-based platforms
- Strong interest in STEM outreach and pursuing graduate school or research-based career

Training:
Weekly lab meeting, individual and group supervision meetings as needed, and ongoing supervision provided online via Basecamp (project management website) and Google chat.
Learning outcome:
1. Demonstrate understanding of basic research design and ethics involved in the lab research project(s).
2. Be able to explain the components of the Psychology Pathways career exploration intervention.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in assigned research tasks (e.g., participant management, data collection, data checking, transcript cleaning, etc.).
