The Athletic Intern for the Boys' Wrestling Team at Dana Hills High School will be an integral part of the athletic department, focusing on student teaching and coaching responsibilities. This internship offers aspiring coaches and educators an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a high school athletic environment. The intern will work closely with the Head Wrestling Coach and will assist in the development and implementation of training programs, mentoring student-athletes, and supporting the overall goals of the wrestling team.
Tasks:
Planning and Conducting Practices:
Assisting in developing daily and weekly practice plans that align with the team's goals and individual athlete development.
Leading warm-ups, drills, and conditioning exercises during practice sessions, ensuring all activities are executed safely and effectively.
Collaborating with the coaching staff to implement sport-specific training techniques and strategies that enhance performance.
Providing Individualized Coaching:
Offering personalized feedback and instruction to wrestlers during practice, focusing on improving techniques such as takedowns, escapes, and pins.
Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions to address specific areas of improvement for individual athletes, using video analysis and other assessment tools.
Tracking athlete progress throughout the season, maintaining detailed records of performance metrics and providing reports to the Head Coach.
Classroom Teaching and Instruction:
Supporting physical education classes by assisting in lesson planning, delivering instruction, and evaluating student performance.
Engaging students in discussions about health, fitness, and sportsmanship principles fosters a positive and educational classroom environment.
Integrating wrestling-related skills and knowledge into the physical education curriculum, creating a cohesive learning experience for students.
Game Day Preparation and Management:
Assisting in organizing and setting home matches, including preparing the wrestling mats, arranging equipment, and coordinating logistics.
Managing athlete warm-ups and pre-match routines, ensuring wrestlers are physically and mentally prepared for competition.
Serving in a coaching capacity during matches, providing real-time feedback, strategy adjustments, and encouragement to athletes.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Recording match statistics, including individual and team performance metrics, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Analyze opponent performance and develop scouting reports to inform game plans and match strategies.
Assisting in evaluating match footage to refine techniques, tactics, and overall team strategy.
Communication and Team Coordination:
