Detox Case InternAt — Northbound Treatment Services
- Provides clients individual and group counseling, case management services
- Facilitates individual sessions (for a length of time informed by clients’ abilities to focus and engage in counseling) with all detox residents
- Provides crisis intervention including proactive retention efforts and ACA blocking
- Enforces rules of the facility and implements consequences when needed
- Adheres to Detox Schedule
- Collaborates with Detox Director and Health Care Director
- Completes client ASAM within 72 hours of arrival
- Completes Initial Family Contact Note within 24 hours of arrival
- Completes Detox Case Management note within 48 hours of arrival
- Maintains client chart and files all notes, records for their clients
- Ensures client progress and updates Detox Case Management Note as needed
- Directs all client needs to appropriate department/resource
- Documents all client contact of any kind
- Coordinate continuum of care planning – working with Detox Director, Health Care Manager, clinical team, admissions team and client’s family
- Coordinates detox bed space with the admissions department
- Must be proficient in computer skills
- Must have an understanding of client confidentiality and HIPAA
- Must have understanding of the medical disease model and the 12 step recovery process
- Conduct client orientation to Northbound with all detox participants and document
- Conduct family and referent calls according to agreed program guidelines
- Complete Discharge Summary within 24 hours of discharge (Detox only clients)
Tasks:
Participating in weekly clinical meetings and morning huddle, having 1:1 sessions with clients regarding case management, finding resources for clients including doctors, social services, therapists, and jobs, Assessing and completing ASAM forms for clients, Assessing and completing treatment plans for clients, engaging in multiple modalities such as motivational interviewing, teaching life skills and mindfulness, engaging in craving reduction conversations with clients, summarizing pertinent clinical information into various types of notes, developing treatment plan goals and measurements with clients based on their individual needs
Note:
All interns will receive supervision from licensed and certified professionals onsite, as the organization has both CCAPP and clinical supervisors available to oversee their work and development.
Training:
Initial orientation will include 8 hours of mandated training on health, emergency, and facility policies, training will be done daily on documentation and sessions and will be assessed for and tested for competency prior to allowing the student to do it. We will have daily check ins to see how the student is progressing and provide any recommendations or support. We will review documentation prior to the student signing it. We will be available for any questions throughout the duration of the training and internship.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship the student will be able to document treatment sessions that are state and accredited body approved in the the EHR, assess and document ASAM assessments, complete family contact information notes, do initial assessments upon intake, deal with crisis intervention and de-escalation, do group sessions as well as group notes, and attend clinical meetings.
