College Corner Program LeadAt — Toberman Neighborhood Center
The College Corner position seeks well-rounded educators who are committed to supporting the community. This role focuses on providing assistance to students in grades 6-12 with their homework or specific subjects where they may be facing challenges. Additionally, staff members can help clients of all ages with a range of subjects. The job emphasizes not only one-on-one tutoring but also teaching various subjects to the community. We offer a variety of workshops aimed at supporting kids, teens, and parents to help strengthen the nuclear family. Some of our workshops include a monthly teen self-care session, where a staff member highlights the importance of self-care for mental health, followed by an engaging activity that participants can practice at home or school. We also provide Technology Literacy classes designed to help older adults effectively navigate their computers, iPads, and phones. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and empowered to learn at their own pace. We believe in fostering a supportive community that encourages lifelong learning and personal growth. By offering a diverse range of educational opportunities, we aim to meet the unique needs of each individual, ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary to succeed.
Tasks:
1. List of workshop/class ideas (push to improve creativity in developing workshops/classes to bring clients in)
2. Lesson plan development (grading lesson plan to facilitate workshop/class allowing mentor, staff, and supervisor to understand/take over)
3. Marketing plan/outreach (getting completed workshop/class out into the community to gain clients)
4.Pushing creative process (develop larger ideas for workshops and think outside the box)
Training:
1. Weekly one-on-one mentor meetings
2. Workshop observation/notes on improvement
3. Grading lesson plans/outreach plans
4. Scheduled training to improve workshop development
5. Filming workshops to improve engagement with team/clients
6. Idea/creative process development
Learning outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
1. Facilitate workshops to parents, teen, and children with out Supervisor assistance (leading other teams to follow)
2. Create lesson plan in detail (should be able to read and execute lesson plans with or without the mentor there, for others to understand)
3. Collaborate with other departments to develop weekly classes with students/clients
4.Develop new workshops based off education
5.Create, promote, and market workshops/classes
