This service learning opportunity involves building and maintaining a donor or volunteer database, ensuring data quality, performing backups, and troubleshooting any issues. The participant will develop a secure online donation platform with features such as donation tracking, recurring donations, and user management. Additionally, they will create an event registration system for nonprofit events, allowing participants to register, track their status, and receive confirmations or reminders. The project, completed in 25 hours, will include front-end and back-end development with PayPal or Stripe integration and a reminder system

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

When visiting Chinatown or participating in ACE events in-person, service-learning students will always be accompanied by an adult ACE board member, volunteer, or staff who is aware of security issues and how to deal with them. Students will also have access to emergency phone numbers and local staff who can deal with emergencies.

When in Chinatown, service learning students may encounter many types of people, including City staff, community service workers, police, homeless people and families, and at-risk persons. Students are instructed to be polite and respectful to all persons in the neighborhood. Do not take photographs, since some people living on the streets may feel it is very intrusive.
