Mental Health Intern- MSWI or MSWIIAt — Los Rios CCD - Mental Health and Wellness Services

Opportunity Summary 

MSWI or MSWII Interns will be providing one to one therapy at any one of the Los Rios Community College District sites (ARC, SCC, CRC, FLC). Interns will work as a part of the college Student Health and Wellness team alongside other MSW, doctoral level, MFT interns, mental health advocates, nurses, health services assistants and licensed clinicians. Interns will have opportunities to: - Provide individual therapy to a diverse array of college students - Work in a multidisciplinary team - Provide stigma reduction outreach, workshops and trainings -Collaborate with college programs and campus affinity groups - Receive weekly clinical supervision - Participate in weekly training and case consultation Interns will have the opportunity to witness and participate in the growth and development of the Student Health and Wellness Center Program while being a part of a supportive, collaborative and creative team.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns will have many opportunities to strengthen their clinical skills including, how to do an initial assessment for brief therapy, how to provide short term therapy, how to provide a comprehensive risk assessment, and how to chart appropriately in an Electronic Health Record. Interns will learn how to work in a specialty within an educational system. They will learn to collaborate and work as part of a multidisciplinary team of mental health and physical health professions providing FREE campus based support to a diverse group of college students. Interns will also have the opportunity to develop skills in hosting outreach events, workshops and trainings and being part of a stigma reduction public health effort.

Opportunity Training 

Interns will be provided with an initial orientation welcoming them to the Student Health and Wellness Team. During orientation, interns will learn the basic expectations of our site, how to provide brief therapy and the suicide risk protocol. Interns will be trained and supported in developing strong documentation skills and learn how to use an electronic health record system. Interns will receive weekly clinical supervision to provide a strong foundation in clinical skills and will also have the opportunity to participate in case consultations with other interns. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in biweekly-monthly trainings discussing specific diagnosis, case scenarios and implementation of therapeutic interventions.
