Position Overview: The Phillips Group is seeking motivated and detail-oriented students for our Summer Accounting Internship Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of accounting, working alongside experienced professionals and contributing to real-world projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
  • Support the accounting team in daily operations.
  • Participate in the month-end closing processes.
  • Conduct research and analysis on various accounting issues.
  • Help maintain accurate and organized financial records.
  • Collaborate with team members on special projects and initiatives.
  • Provide limited administrative support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting (other business majors do not qualify).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.

Tasks:

(1) Preparing (or helping to prepare) monthly financial statements for dentists and physicians, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
(2) Participating in communications with clients, enhancing their communication skills.
(3) Collaborating on a small accounting team, demonstrating teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills.
(4) Entering and categorizing transactions into QuickBooks, ensuring proficiency in accounting software.
(5) Gathering and organizing client data, enhancing their organizational and critical thinking skills.

Training:

(1) Assign experienced mentors to interns for regular one-on-one sessions, offering guidance, feedback, and support throughout the internship.
(2) Involve interns in team projects to develop teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills.
(3) Schedule frequent feedback sessions to review interns' progress, address challenges, and provide actionable insights for improvement.
(4) Provide access to online learning modules and resources on accounting principles, software usage, and effective communication techniques.
(5) Conduct mid-term and final performance reviews to evaluate interns' achievements, set goals, and discuss career development opportunities.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
(1) Understand the steps involved in the practice of public accounting (especially as they relate to clients in the healthcare profession);
(2) Use accounting software such as QuickBooks, EasyAcct, or other industry-specific tools;
(3) Develop skills in communicating effectively with clients, including explaining financial information and providing advice; and
(4) Enhance soft skills such as teamwork, time management, and problem-solving, which are essential for a successful career in accounting.
