Tasks:
1. Design and Prototype a User Interface Feature
Students will be assigned a real feature or screen from the product and asked to design it from scratch. This includes conducting basic user research or reviewing existing user data, sketching wireframes, creating high-fidelity mockups in Figma, and developing interactive prototypes for testing. Final designs will be reviewed by the design and product teams for implementation readiness.
2. Create a Cohesive Set of Branded Marketing Assets
Interns will design a complete set of branded graphics for a specific campaign or product launch. This may include social media posts, email banners, digital ads, and one-pagers or brochures. They’ll be expected to apply brand guidelines, design for visual consistency, and adapt layouts for various platforms while collaborating with marketing stakeholders.
3. Organize and Maintain the Team’s Shared Design Library
Interns will contribute to the internal design system by organizing UI components, creating reusable templates, and naming/layering files according to best practices. They will also assist in refining shared libraries in tools like Figma, and preparing assets for developer handoff.
4. Participate in Cross-Functional Sprint Meetings and Product Reviews
Students will attend weekly sprint planning meetings and product reviews, where they will present their design work, listen to product feedback, and coordinate with developers on technical implementation. This gives them hands-on experience communicating design decisions and adjusting work based on team input.
5. Conduct and Present a Design Iteration Case Study
Interns will select one of their completed design tasks, gather internal feedback and user insights, and iterate on their design. They will then present a short case study documenting their design thinking process, feedback received, changes made, and final outcomes. This task emphasizes reflection, revision, and the value of critique in the design process.
Training:
1. General Orientation & Onboarding Session
Interns will begin with a mandatory onboarding session covering the company’s mission, product goals, user personas, and design process. This will help them understand the context of their work and how UX decisions impact the end-user experience.
2. Weekly One-on-One Mentor Meetings
Interns will have scheduled check-ins with a design mentor to review their marketing and branding work, receive personalized feedback, and get guidance on applying visual design principles to real projects.
3. Hands-On Tool Training & Work Sample Reviews
Interns will receive guided training on Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and file management practices. They’ll also review sample design files to learn how to structure and deliver professional-quality work.
4. Job Shadowing & Cross-Functional Project Involvement
Interns will have opportunities to observe team meetings, design sprints, and developer handoff sessions. They’ll actively participate in team projects to learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively.
5. Design Reviews & Iteration Workshops
Regular group critiques and peer review sessions will help interns learn how to present their work, accept feedback, and revise their designs based on constructive input from team members and users.
Learning Outcome:
1. User-Centered Product Design
Develop the ability to create intuitive and engaging digital interfaces by applying UX principles, wireframing, and prototyping real product features.
2. Visual Communication & Branding
Build skills in crafting visually compelling assets for marketing and brand storytelling, including social media graphics and presentations.
3. Design Tools & Workflow Mastery
Gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, while learning how to organize design files and assets for team use.
4. Team Collaboration & Cross-Functional Communication
Learn how to effectively collaborate with developers, marketers, and product managers, and contribute to design discussions in a real-world team setting.
5. Constructive Feedback & Iteration
Practice incorporating design critique and user feedback into iterative design cycles, improving both technical work and communication skills.
