Service Learning OpportunityAt — Livingston Memorial

Opportunity Summary

Join Livingston’s volunteer team and help bring joy, connection, and legacy to seniors in Ventura County.

1) LIFE STORY: Everyone has a story worth remembering. As a Life Story volunteer, you’ll be paired with a senior citizen to document their life story — preserving cherished memories for their loved ones and for future generations. Through shared conversations, storytelling, and recorded reflections, you’ll create a lasting legacy that celebrates their unique journey. This role is a wonderful opportunity to form deep connections and honor the wisdom of those who have so much to share.

2) ENGAGEMENT & ACTIVITY LEADERS: Bring your passion to brighten the lives of residents in Board & Care and Assisted Living facilities! Whether you’re drawn to music, arts, fitness, or organizing social events, there’s a place for your talents here. Lead or participate in activities such as: Playing an instrument, hosting a craft, reading, playing poker or other card games, and more.

3) FARMERS MARKET: Join the Camarillo Farmers Market every Saturday in Old Town Camarillo. Welcome guests, answer questions, assist with setting up/breaking down, and help create a warm, engaging atmosphere. Proceeds from the Farmers Market supports free grief and bereavement counseling.

4) SHADOWING: Potential opportunities for shadowing professionals during home care visits. This could include nurses, CNAs, physical/occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, etc.

Opportunity Training

Students will receive comprehensive training to ensure they feel confident and prepared. This includes a one-time in-person orientation covering Livingston’s mission, volunteer responsibilities, and communication best practices with older adults. In addition, students will receive in-field training and will be directly supervised during their first two visits. Extended supervision is available upon request or as needed based on the student’s comfort and performance.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity

Students will not provide medical care and will always work within the scope of their training. All volunteers must complete a background check, TB screening, and attend a mandatory orientation. Activities take place in secure, supervised settings such as assisted living homes or patient residences. Students are encouraged to communicate any concerns immediately to their supervisor. Safety protocols are reviewed during training to ensure a safe and respectful environment for both students and residents.
